I don't like censorship in movies or in music for that matter. I just think censoring ruins the song or the movie. As far as believing in it. I do, but it depends on a case by case basis. For example if it's a kids cartoon and it has swear words in it, then yes censor those.

I think you're talking about rating as opposed to censorship. I completely agree that censorship ruins the original intention of the film (or whatever output we're talking about). Rating, on the other hand, is used to determine the appropriate audience for the material prior to consumption. In the case of cartoons, if there is profanity, rather than censoring, the film would be given a non-family rating. :)

Nicely put. :) But actualy i am talking to censorship. I mean, who gives a rats ss about rating. Nobody even pays attention to those kind of things. Not anymore. So i just think that there should be censorship. But very very minimal. I guess i havent cleared things with myself on this yet. Because i have no kids. And we all grow and as we grow we change. So maybe in 5 or 10 years time i will have a differend state of mind about censorship. :)

I think censorship as a whole is stupid. They have ratings which tell you what is in movies and television.Censoring things should be the peoples choice, not the government's or a small demographic of people. And that censorship should only have to include personal responsibility, like turning off the T.V. or movie,or just not deciding to see it because the ratings say they could be too graphic for your child. It takes personal responsibility away from people,so that they can just point fingers and say that it was the censors fault instead of governing their own life.

Yeah, I believe that censorship in movies are very helpful in letting the televiewers know what to and not watch. It is very helpful most especially to the kids who are main viewers and who are the most viewers who can stay longer at the front of the television. It will be a help for the parents to guide which is the best movie for their kids.

I believe that censorship is needed to preserve high quality movies that is worth of public viewing. It prevents movies that are poorly-made and would just turn out to be a flop movie. Too much energy, money and attention is wasted if all kinds of movies are shown. Thanks for the discussion :)

In my country, censorship in movies is strictly followed. Our country has very good culture and traditions. In order to keep our tradition and culture, censorship is must in our country. They are cut off the scenes in movies which are about a religion or community or which spoil our culture. Sometimes it seems it is wrong. But basically it's correct.

Censorship can very confusing at times, for example you are censoring a love making scene. Now it can be the case that love making scene is important to present the story line well or the filmmaker has purposely put the love making scene when its not at all important. So if you cut that scene in both cases ,then it would be unfair for first filmmaker.I don't agree with the system. One of our fellow Mylot user mentioned about rating system in comments above, that is fair and much better. As far as my country is concerned they cut many scenes in the name of culture and the censorship is on Television too.I remember getting irritated when a scene of movie called Underworld was cut in which a guy turns into a wolf, why would anyone cut that?As illogical as it can get.

I am not sure how other country's classify their movies but it is sure a good way of taking the responsibility to inform the people of what they should know about the issues tackled on a movie without having to open such sensitive issues to children.

film ratings is good..such as age restriction etc.. 18 PG 13 etc not really a censorship in USA..just according to age group that are allowed to view certain films.. some countries implies an actual "cut" or censorship on films.. where certain scenes omitted..thereby can be view with no age restriction..anyone can watch em..even toddlers.. unless the movie is too extreme ..need lots of cuts..like DJANGO UNCHAinED.. ended unwatchable.. so these kind of films gets age group ratings.

I don't think movies should be censored because that's not how they were suppose to be enjoyed. I would understand if they have an age limit for certain movies but don't censor things out, just let the more mature audience what that movie.

I think censorship can only help in like really segregating viewers only in cinemas but since copies of movies gets produced after like sometime it would really be hard to censor who can view the movies especially those that has content only appropriate to adults.

I think censorship is very good to limit some bad movies to go to the public. While there is any right which should be based on some restrictions, there is no complete freedom for everything. As we know, one coin has two sides.
