Why pick non locking over locking tuners?

I can't believe this is even a debate cause I can't imagine picking non locking tuners over locking ones. The only reason that springs to mind is that non locking tuners can have better tone but I don't know. I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on the subject, is it just a tone thing or even an appearance thing or is there actually an advantage to not having locking tuners.
