Looking forward into turning my patio in a lush Eden. Full of tomatoes, green beans, straw berries, blue berries. Lots of flowers and lots of work. I find going out there helps relieve stress improves my health and all around well being. We planted all that and more in a 10 by 14 foot area. I believe every one should do this to help create self sufficiency, less of a draw on our natural resources, help create a sustainable balance between the grocery store and the farm. And if you can hunt too, a little protein on your dinner plate gives the body energy it needs to survive.

I am trying to do some vegetable gardening for over two years now. It proved wonderful when I had chemotherapy. The doctor forbid raw veggies, but when I told her that they were grown at home with no pesticides and potable water, I was allowed to eat as much as I wanted.

Organic vegtables our definitely a plus, however I don't understand why a doctor would suggest that store vegtables are not good for you. Washed off vegtables from a store still got to be better than frozen dinners, pop tarts, and soda. Keep growing at home!

@silvergirl77 : Pesticides are not good for patients undergoing chemotheraphy. I could not eat any of the food you mentioned either. Not that I cared much: I cook all my meals from scratch and I have NEVER eaten a frozen diner in my life.
