Back yard garden: One step toward a sustainable food supply

            Looking forward into turning my patio in a lush Eden.  Full of tomatoes, green beans, straw berries, blue berries.  Lots of flowers and lots of work.  I find going out there helps relieve stress improves my health and all around well being.  We planted all that and more in a 10 by 14 foot area.  I believe every one should do this to help create self sufficiency, less of a draw on our natural resources, help create a sustainable balance between the grocery store and the farm.  And if you can hunt too, a little protein on your dinner plate gives the body energy it needs to survive.

                    I am trying to do some vegetable gardening for over two years now. It proved wonderful when I had chemotherapy. The doctor forbid raw veggies, but when I told her that they were grown at home with no pesticides and potable water, I was allowed to eat as much as I wanted.

                            Organic vegtables our definitely a plus, however I don't understand why a doctor would suggest that store vegtables are not good for you.  Washed off vegtables from a store still got to be better than frozen dinners, pop tarts, and soda.   Keep growing at home!

                            @silvergirl77 : Pesticides are not good for patients undergoing chemotheraphy. I could not eat any of the food you mentioned either. Not that I cared much: I cook all my meals from scratch and I have NEVER eaten a frozen diner in my life.
