Do you think self help books really work?

A lot of people seem to be taking depression medicine, anxiety medicine, or other types of medication to cope with depression or anxiety. I was wondering what everyone's opinions on self help books/counseling, and other information out there is? Do you think it helps? Do you think it works? Would you ever try it?

Most medicine is a scam---just something to dull your senses while your body naturally takes care of whatever problem you've let in. The biggest scam: diabetes. I don't know enough to tell you where the real problem is, but ... you know America's number one industry now? "Medicine," selling 'quicksilver' so that you die just as soon (if not sooner), but can't feel it.

If I were ever diagnosed with diabetes, my choice would be NOT to get locked into the insulin path but, instead, control it by diet and other alternative means. Why? Because, once you're locked into insulin, there's no way short of gastric by-pass surgery to get your pancreas producing natural insulin again. I hope I have that choice should that happen. Unfortunately, some spite calls got my mom and me drawn to the attention of Adult Protective Services, and several of my mom's wishes weren't respected when it came to medical directives. I hope that some kangaroo court won't end up finding me incompetent to make my own decisions--including medical ones! Right at this time, I'm fighting the system a day at a time re: control of my life. Long story! Don't even get me started!!!

@mythociate Exactly!!! Thankfully, I don't have diabetes yet and hope I never will. Due to weight problems (which are becoming history), I was definitely a candidate for it in the past. While my sugar spiked up briefly to fight off an infection, further daily testing of my level while I was in the hospital found me to be normal (when it comes to blood sugar, that is LOL). I need to make sure that apples and cinnamon are part of my diet on a very regular basis--which they already have been on a frequent basis but need to make it more of a daily thing to do.
