What If Someone Went Back in Time & Convinced Eve Not to Eat the Forbidden Fruit?

Nevermind that the traveler would get stuck in a 'causality loop' (as the Fall of Man is the reason most of humanity exists, no?)---would God have had to figure out some OTHER way for mankind to demonstrate its free will?

A time traveler would find themselves with no destination since the story of Adam and Eve is an allegory and not a factual event. With no real fall original sin does not exist and humanity is inherently good and not born in sin. Deus sive natura

That's similar to the point I think I was getting at ... that people (even the most-devoted 'disciples'-etc.) hold themselves/their-hunger/curiosity/greed higher than G*d. Maybe Eve didn't immediately bee-line to the Forbidden Fruit when it was supper-time ... maybe there were several dozen ir -HUNDRED times when she looked at the fruit & considered-for-but-decided-against eating it or looked & didn't even CONSIDER eating it. But ... you're home-alone, & someone has a plate full of cookies on your dining-room table (if you live with your family or others ... someone would have to BREAK INTO my apartment to leave cookies here ); how long is it going to be before you 'sample' the pastries?

@kotia057 But He didn't say WHY they couldn't eat it (except that 'they surely would die' ... I think they were bound to die anyway, but they didn't KNOW that until they ate.)

@mythociate But what if your house was FULL of cookies? Do you think what the Adam and Eve have only the the forbidden tree? No, they have everything they need and much more. And the God warns them and explain them why. Everything was fair. But they dont respect him for everything he gave to them. And all we pay the coincidens ''price''

First of all - We have to accept that Adam and Eve existed and therefore God existed. When do we go to? You have a date to return to? The reason to build your time machine is to go back and stop Eve from eating the forbidden fruit... There are few problems with this... Scholars believe that the forbidden fruit was knowledge. If the fruit had never been eaten, we would not have the knowledge to build the time machine. If we go back and stop Eve eating the fruit, then modern man/ woman would have no need to build the machine, so we could not return to stop the silly cow eating the fruit - See what I am getting at? Paradox If I am to suspend belief and accept that your God character exists. then surely he would scupper any time travel plans

I said NEVERMIND THAT IT'S IMPOSSIBLE! And the 'knowledge' was "the knowledge of good & evil." Not 'ALL knowledge,' more like 'the fact that knowledge can be used for anything other than obedience.' And time is only 'measured' in dates-&-times. Plotting a destination is more like a "where," requiring me to go back 'where' Eve fell to temptation. Although--with all the stuff the Bible-account is bound to have left out (the Fall being so essential to the Bible's story)--she was bound to be tempted again-and-again-and-again---she & Adam weren't going anywhere, & the tree wasn't going anywhere!

@mythociate - Pointless discussion, because any answers have to fit your ideas... I forgot how your posts work

@robspeakman No, it's just that 'whether it is possible' WASN'T the point. (Funny how you call a discussion with a point you can't see "pointless") The POINT was more along the lines of the question 'How would G*d make Adam & Eve sin anyway if she HADN'T taken of the Forbidden Fruit?'

That would be an interesting episode ... or at least an interesting suggestion from his Companion, to explain unchangable history or something.

Excerpt of a report from general Cecrops : "Our time machine expedition has been a complete success. Our timonauts managed to convince Eve to not eat the fruit. God was irritated and said to the snake : 'All right, you won, snakes will dominate the world.' I suggest to award col. Bob Boa and Doc Python the great cross of the snake nation."
