I'm Over It

I'm old and set in my ways, and I thought I would have a hard time with the new format here, but nope, I'm over it. I think I like it, actually. It was a pretty abrupt shock when the announcement was made, and when I saw the new format I wasn't sure. But I"m over it. What I'm not over is missing my friends who have chosen to go to other sites. :-( Maybe some of them will come back. Or I will see them on e-mail, Facebook, that bubbly place or whatever. But I don't hate it here and I'm not angry and I hope we get an influx of new people to make the site interesting again. Are you over it yet?

I'm getting a little more used to the new format. I wouldn't say that I'm really there and fully over it, but I'm slowly getting there. I think I need a little more time.

No, because it's a lot more difficult to find interesting posts now and there are a few features I just don't like, such as the teeny tiny box for writing PMs. The interesting post page seems like it's always full of spam. I blocked the posters because I thought that would hide the posts, but I guess it doesn't work that way. I don't think I'll ever be completely over it, but I'll stick around for a while.

@FrugalMommy As I understand the new system, "interesting" posts are based on your tags. For the time being, there is no way to edit your tags, but I do plan on suggesting it for the next update.

Hi Dawn! After playing around here (even if it was to just boo and hiss), I've gotten used to the format for the most part. In that sense, I am "over it". What I don't like is there is much less interaction here because of it. Discussions don't get much exposure - which means less responses overall. I can't find friends nor discussions easily like before - and it can be pretty darn frustrating. You're right, migration has taken place, so it's not so fun here anymore . . . and that part, I am not "over it". If I may say, it feels like everyone is trying to make that bubbly place work. It is a bit different, but I think people have big time motivation to be there (and the earnings are not too shabby which helps with the motivating factor). That site happened to be there at the right time - and it gave people hope when they most needed it - that perhaps have cooled some people down to get "over it" faster. Now there is almost no need to come back here, sadly. Today I got paid . . . my last earnings. They did keep their word on this part at least. I've had some time to cool down myself . . . so seeing this final earnings note from "old" myLot kind of made things "ok". Maybe I'm more over it than I think!

@much2say Hi, how did I miss this? I'm not sure if there's less interaction because of the format or because of the mass exodus. As for the bubbly place, I see a lot of people getting paid, but I hear a lot of people complaining about not getting paid. At least one of them was a plagiarist, not sure about the others. Got my last payment today too...

@dawnald Heya! I'd say both. Besides the new format, not many were willing to give it chance as it kind of stunk how myLot made this gigantic switcheroo without much warning - too abrupt for many. The people felt let down - why should they support a site that didn't support them. It was easier to have a mass exodus when there were other places to go. I think at the bubbly place, there is a sense of teamwork again (we'll see what happens with the earnings). In my opinion, the format here isn't really teamwork friendly (anymore) . . . but I am willing to make the extra effort for certain friends . . .

I think that if you understand how the reimagined MyLot works you can like it. I found a very interesting explanation of how now this site works on this link posted by Owlwings: how-to-use-mylot.blogspot.co.uk After reading it you'll be clear about the features here. Only this link won't bring back your friends, but who knows? :)

@dnatureofdtrain If you had $5 as of 4/30 and if you were active in April you will get paid (should have gotten paid yesterday).

@dnatureofdtrain I don't think you have lost your earnings. I copy this suggestion posted by Owlwings: "Everyone who is expecting to be paid (who had at least $5 in their accounts on 30 April) should check their emails for a message from PayPal to say they have received a payment from MyLot. Note that the payments probably don't all go out at once, so some may not yet have received them but will do shortly. I have and I know a number of others have, too." Good luck!

i told myself i'd join other sites only after mylot paid me. kind of like closure, you know. the separation or severance pay. while i was sleeping the paypal notification came and it's even a few cents higher than i expected, even though i got deletion notifications. it's still bittersweet, though. as i keep saying, it's really the format. if you don't have facebook or twitter, it will really confuse and frustrate you. you can't really cut yourself off immediately and completely. people's names, topics and conversations cross your mind now and then and you seek them out. whatever happened to this or that person? (even if they're not on your friends list) i remember this or that person saying something about this topic or site (again, even if they're not on your friends list). the problem is there are things you can do at the old mylot that you can't in the other sites because they are set up differently and the rules are also different.

There are actually a number of sites which use an almost identical top bar menu. Whether Twitter was the first, I can't say, but LinkedIn is almost identical and I have seen several others which use a very similar colour scheme and format. The actual mechanics of the site are very different from Twitter, however, and any confusion between the two ought to be no more than an initial 'double-take'. I maintain that it is actually a very simple and logical format, so long as you forget about the old site and approach it as you would a new site. I know that, for some, learning a new site (even a simple one) seems an almost insurmountable obstacle and it is for those people that I tried to write a simple, structured introduction to the main elements of the site: At the moment, it's quite elementary but I shall be adding more very soon (so please bookmark it or subscribe to it because it may become more than just a 'beginner's tutorial').
Saturday, 4 May 2013 This is the NEW myLot! What MyLot claims to be:    "An enormous discussion board, blogging community, questions and answers hub, social network and online hangout all wrapped up into one neat little package we call myLot.  Follow and j

... And, before anyone asks! No, I have no undeclared 'interests' or involvement with the design of the site and no more fore-knowledge of it than a number of other members. I had to explore and learn the site from scratch at the beginning of May like everyone else (including GoAskAlice, I should mention). It's just that, having spent many years in IT Support and Software Training, I, perhaps, have less fear of new user interfaces than many and actually enjoy playing with new toys to see how they work! I don't believe in the "over the hill" mentality or that old dogs can't learn new tricks. I went over that 'hill' that some people mark on their maps some twenty or thirty years ago and I'm still in the foothills!

@dnatureofdtrain There was an alert posted, but you would have had to be online while it was up.
