My cat Jason likes socks. A lot. When I do laundry, I roll up the socks, and Jason goes around and poaches them. The kids rarely put their laundry away right away, and I often come home, and Jason has deposited some of their socks downstairs for me to find. So when I didn't find any sock rolls late last week, it was a sign.
When I went to SF last weekend, I had the kids on "Jason watch". They made sure he was eating, but they reported that he was pretty much just lying around. No sock rolls too.
So this week I took him to the vet. So far his potassium is off, nothing much else showed up. But that can be indicative of liver problems when there's no sign of kidney stones or other things. So now they want to do an ultrasound, and depending on yesterday's blood test results, it may or may not be urgent to do it. For now he's on antibiotics.
Basically, I just spent Cary's clarinet money on vet bills, and still don't have a definitive diagnosis. Jason did seem a lot better last night. At least he wasn't hiding in the closet all night.
The vet said that sometimes these things just correct themselves. I hope this is one of those cases. He's only 5.

Oh poor Jason! I hope he isn't suffering too badly. You made me smile when I was reading about the sock balls he plays with.
