There are many different statement one can make about this particular career and a majority can be quite contradicting. The career is said to be (at least from people I have asked) "gone", "disappearing", "costly" OR "worth it", "do it. you can earn a lot of money", "just be sure to plan your path and skip costly schools and student loans","wow a lawyer", "respected career" OR "disrespected", "lawyers are liars", "they keep criminals out of jail" and so forth.

i work in career guidance and i think you should do what you want to do professionally but also do it so that it will provide you with food, shelter etc. Do a little research on how many lawyers are needed on the labour market at all and what do they specialize in. Then decide if that is what you want and if it is then no one has the right to say that it's not right for you.
