why do people fear reptiles ?

Just a guess, but I think the average person doesn't know enough about them to feel comfortable around them. I like things that are maybe a bit more predictable, like dogs and cats. To me a reptile just seems so foriegn and I can't even imagine what a snake is thinking when I look into it's eyes. Does that make sense? It's hard to trust an animal you can't understand. I think certain people like the late Steve Irwin have a great gift for understanding animals, but most of us only get the easy ones!
