Pork Barrel….

We have heard a lot of these from the news for the past few months. It’s all about anomalies in giving funds to NGO’s and others through our legislators and other local executives for their various supposed projects. The system is that they will identify the projects and our executive department through the Department of Budget and Management will release the budget. The problem is instead of spending the money provided to fund this project for their constituents welfare, the money is being distributed to politicians with connivance from implementing agency for their own personal use, short of saying that it is being pocketed by these corrupt officials. We know that it is really happening for quite some time but it is only now that our consciousness is being awaken since we were aware from the whistleblowers how much amount of money are being wasted for personal interest of our politicians instead of using the money for our very poor citizens who are really in need of basic services of the government like education, housing and health needs of many indigent people. Every time our people get notice of these anomalies, we will all be assured by our government that they will scrap the pork barrel once and for all only to learn later that they only changed the name but still the system of giving funds to our legislators and national and local executives continues without proper accounting. We are getting information that even the office of our president and vice president are being provided by huge chunks of funds for their own discretionary use even they will not undergo documentation on how they will be uses and spent. The reason why its use is being subjected to abuse and misuse due to the lack of proper accountability of the officers who were tasked to use them properly. The people are beginning to totally lose their trust to the government because of repeated abuses being committed by them. Even protests and rallies being conducted by concern citizens calling for the total abolition of giving funds to the politicians still they are trying to ignore these calls because of their own personal interest. We are hoping that his will come to an end so that our scarce government funds will be used correctly only for the benefits our poor countrymen.
