Are School I.D.s really necessary?

School I.D.s or I.D.s in general are supposed to imply that the holder belongs to a certain organization or group and is used to identify them, but is it really that important that one person cannot enter the premises of a school or other private institutions without the said I.D. even when the security of these institutions can clearly name and identify that person. Are I.D.s really supposed to help us? Or add in the burden of trying to comply with strict uniform regulations? And isn't pointless to have an I.D. state your name but can only be read up close? I don't think that I.D.s should be removed in schools or other institutions but at least make their role a little less important. They are only meant to help identity people and not a pass to get into school premises. I think when I enrolled that gave me the pass to get inside school and should not be restricted by not having an I.D.
