Marshmallow Test

The marshmallow test is an experiment about delayed gratification. This experiment was performed with kids ages four to six as subjects. They were asked to stay in a room free from distractions except for a single marshmallow in front of each one. Now here's the deal, if the child waits for another fifteen minutes without eating the marshmallow , he/she will be rewarded with another one. It was fun to see how some of them tried to control themselves. Some would cover their eyes or turn their backs from the tray and patiently waited for the fifteen minutes to be over and for the reward. There were those, however, who can't control themselves and ate it as soon as the researchers were out of sight. In the follow-up studies, those children who held back became more competent and reliable than the other group. We can learn from this. We adults should be able to control our human desires and be able to discern what is more important. We must abstain from temptations and focus more on a rewarding life promised by God.
