I think it should be banned How Smoking Affects Your Health : 1)The consequences of this poisoning happen gradually. 2)Smokers not only develop wrinkles and yellow teeth 3)Bad skin 4)Bad breath. 5)Bad-smelling clothes and hair 6)Reduced athletic performance 7)Greater risk of injury and slower healing time 8)Increased risk of illness. . Studies show that smokers get more colds, flu, bronchitis, and pneumonia than nonsmokers. And people with certain health conditions, like asthma, become more sick if they smoke (and often if they're just around people who smoke). Because teens who smoke as a way to manage weight often light up instead of eating, their bodies lack the nutrients they need to grow, develop, and fight off illness properly

I think ppl should be allowed to smoke in public if they want to. I'm not a smoker and I can't stand it either when ppl smoke in public but it's there right if they want to. There are a lot of things ppl do in public that they shouldn't but they do...for example where perfume and sometimes its so strong its over bearing but we cant ban that now can we. =)

smokers should also respect non-smokers;we all have our rights but respect is a good thing.

I think people should be allowed to smoke outside on a public street. It may not be healthy, but they must know that by now and if it is their choice to smoke anyway, then so be it. I do not see how outdoor smoking should bother anyone but the smoker.

that's not true i know someone that has lung cancer now and has never smoked a day in her life.. it's because she works in a diner for 15 years where smoking was aloud till just about the past year. so don't say second hand smoke is BS!

Maybe you should do your research. There are plenty of facts that are very much distorted by anti-smoking groups. Do you really know what second hand smoke does? Do a search online and you'd be surprised at how much garbage you are being fed.

I am a smoker and I have mixed feelings about whether smoking should be banned in public places. I do feel that smokers should be courteous enough to walk away from a crowd. There are certain places that smoking should be banned - indoors, such as restaraunts, shopping malls, etc.....but, outdoors? There are some outdoor places where smoking should be banned - for instance, in the bleachers at any sporting event - but, smokers should be allowed to walk away from the crowd to smoke. And, I agree that there are other things that should be banned - but, never will - and I see that many people have mentioned perfume - which can cause immediate illness in people who suffer from migraines (and I am one such person). But, I think the key to anything is consideration of others - smokers should be considerate of other people's feeling, as should perfume and cologne wearers. That is what will make the difference. No one has the right to tell anyone else what they should or should not do - but, those who do things that may bother others should be considerate of others. I smoke in my car - but, I don't smoke in a non-smoker's car. I smoke in my home - but, I don't smoke in a non-smoker's home. If I am in a crowd, I walk away from the crowd to smoke, but if you follow me, don't tell me my smoke bothers you. Consideration of other's is the key to many of society's problems! Cindy

OFCOURSE!!! here in davao city (southern part in the philippines), we have this city ordinance that noone is allowed to smoke anywhere they wanted. and yes, our law here are respected. you get to jail for a day or two (i think..heheh). that's a good punishment for hard headed people! and since we cannot stop people from smoking, our mayor here as alloted spaces for smokers.. so, there are smoking areas at some spots. it's not good to smoke in public. where's respect for others there? you want freedom? it's not deprivation of freedom anyway. it's giving non-smokers the freedom to live as well...

I only smoke occassionally a few times a year. but my husband does all the time. And he smokes the cheap ones and they stink . and yes sometimes his smoke is irritating that is why i leave the room..or sometimes he will put it out..but i think it is ok to smoke outside away from other people. and no smoking around kids though lord knows they are already huffing and puffing on them by 12 years old..but i don't think it should be banned. If you see a smoker then you can go around them or if possible another direction. I don't think that children should be smoked around though they have tiny lungs and why ruin them with second hand smoke...

i still think it should be up to the individual establishment whether they ban smoking or not. for the goverment to regulate what people do with their own health oversteps their boundaries i think. and i am not at all convinced that a non-smoker's exposure to second hand smoke in a restaurant for a few hours will permanently damage their health. if they are disgusted by the smell, they can go somewhere else or *gasp* cook

yes definately public smoking should be banned. why should others suffer because of others. you know others get more harm by inhaling the passive smoke rather than the smoker itself.

Thats exactlly what you're asking, you're asking for somoene else to suffer so you can be happy, wow a catch 22 isn't it? You want others to respect your rights so how about respecting theirs.

I am a smoker, and I can't stand smoking in public. Well... where people are close by. I seriously can't stand to smell smoke when I'm eating. Just my preferance. And the "natural" thing is not smoking. So for a smoker to ask non-smokers to move from their spot so the smoker can smoke is just disrespectful. The smoker should move if he/she wants to smoke.

Of ourse, it should be banned. Smoking in public is a stupid behavior which is non-respect for other people. We all know that smoking is the mainly cause of lung cancer. If you smoked in public area, all the people around you will inbreathe your second-hand smoke which is harmful for people's health. Actually, you are poisoning those people beyond their allowance. We never should smoke in public without permission.

I think so. You are harming people in public if you are smoking. It may even cause asthma attacks in some. If you're in a place where people are, be kind and don't smoke. But since people just aren't considerate like that, maybe they should have to pay a fine to bring the lesson to their pocketbook.
