I almost made up my mind to quit my job,and not only that,I'm ready to change my profession, which I did about thirteen years,I couldn't sit in front of computer all day long any more.I'm a software developer, this profession brought me neck disease, and eyes problem. The problem is it's so difficult to change profession,I almost need to go right back to the begining,my college major is also computer science and technology. Now,most company recruit employees start from there college major, then experience. So I believe the next step to find a new professional job is extremely hard. Friends,If you have any experience and advice, share me please.

You're right. It is VERY hard to change professions especially when you have a wife and children to support. You can't compromise that income in any way. As someone who is undergoing the same change, let me explain some things. I'm a registered nurse with 14 years experience. I'm also going back to school now for an MBA. You might want to focus on a master's degree, but master in something else other than computer software. The university I'm attending accepted all my classes in my Bachelors program. I hope this helps and God bless.

Yeah,it's lucky for you have time and room to go back to school, like you said,I have a family need to support,so I have to work.Income is another important fact for me,I believe it would be lower than current job,but I don't want to see a great decrease, which depends on what kind of job I will choose and how much experience I can apply to my new job.Thank you for your experience sharing!!!

@songst557 Not really. I wake up at 3 am study till 5 am, work an 8 hr day, come home and spend time with the family. I try to study for at least one hour in the evening and 6 hrs on Saturday and 6 on Sunday. while my family is sleeping and taking an afternoon nap.

@songst557 Also, I want to add if your family would understand, support, and work through this with you. If you have this type of situation, then you might really consider returning to school. Another idea that I have been thinking about is the fact you nearly need a master's degree to get the job you want. I really hate this. College cost a lot of money. Starting a business is an idea for you. Companies have needs for certain software customized for their organization. I will say this, working a full time and part time job, being a husband and father of 2 children, and going to school full time is really tough and a sacrifice for my family and my personal "down time". The only down time I get these days is when I'm sleeping. LOL. God bless.

I guess in any occupation if health inhibits work we must find something else. Everyone takes something with them from their experiences. Perhaps there is a job somewhere that is asking for your expertise in some area, teaching for example, or it could be a job that requires a people person that can help those that have little idea of how computers work at times where computers challenge the workplace. - hope that helps

Why don't you start teaching in the field your have experience? Either you start your own coaching institute or join any others. Your experience will also play crucial role in this, and this will be less stressed than programming.

I'm so happy to learn your thought. You know,I'm a college student who is also major in network engineering and I have to say that I really dislike it,every lesson every class,I almost cannot stand it,it quite suffering,so I even go to the Mental health counselling room of my university, and it worked after think over them myself.I really find that many people majoring computer are doing completely different things. It is only you who can decide your life, there's no other things put off you.
