I used to find it difficult, but now when I want to start a discussion, I usually go off my interest lists and it makes it a whole lot easier to talk about things that I'm familiar with.

i don't find it hard anymore, now that they have updated the site. just post discussions that pertain to your interests. or you can post to discussions your friends have started.
