One of the problems that many homeowners experience is they have limited closet space. No sooner do they put away all of their belongings, the closets become cluttered and items begin showing up everywhere but the closet because of lack of space. There is an easy way to take back control of your home by getting more space out of your closets without having to do a complete remodel job. Here are just a few tips on expanding that closet space with very little effort. Adding More Space Take a close look at the top shelve in your closet and you will see when they were installed they were designed for people of any height to reach them. If you look closer you will see there is usually space not being utilized high above that top shelve. That is all usable storage space that can actually free up a tremendous amount of room inside the closet. The way to add more space is to install an additional set of shelves right above the highest shelf in your closet. Then when you have that higher shelf you can store some items that do not get as much use as others. Place items that are only used during the holiday or are seasonal on that higher shelf. Now you can use all that free space to clean up some of that clutter below. Affordable Shoe Racks The bottom of the closet is usually a pile of shoes that doesn't give you any room to place other items. Purchase an inexpensive shoe rack and get all those shoes organized and in once section. Now you can store smaller boxes or filing boxes below where there was no room before. Tie and Belt Hangers Ties and belts can take up substantial shelf space. Placing a tie or belt hanger on the rod will allow you to place them all in one spot, freeing up much more room to hang your other clothing. The ties will now hang vertically instead of horizontally. The Back of the Door Use the back of the closet door to install small hooks for pocketbooks, ties, belts, robes, or bulky items that are taking up too much space. Behind the door they will not even take up any additional space, allowing you to free up even room. Interior designers can help any homeowner get the most from any space.
