Though the telephone has been around since the late 1800's, cell phones have not existed until recently. Now it seems as though the cell phone world is taking over and many people do not even have a landline telephone anymore.
The Beginning
Motorola developed what is considered the first cellular telephone in 1984. It was called "DynaTAC 8000x" series. This phone was a much bigger version than the phones that we used today, and it also cost the public a lot more. This phone looked much like the cell phone that Zac Morris from "Saved By the Bell" used on the popular television show in the 1990s.
At first not many people had a cell phone or even knew what they were. By the early 1990s though, around 12 million people had signed up for cellular service. Today about 4 billion people have access to a cell phone.
1990s
During the 1990s the look of the cell phone changed. We went from having a big bulky phone to much smaller ones. During this transition, many people even had phones that were carried around in a large bag. These phones stayed in the bag and could be plugged into your car's adapters.
Once the world got tired of carrying their phones around in a bag, a new design was born. Nokia came up with many cell phone designs that had a great battery life to them. Nokia really paved the way for many cell phones that are used today. At first they came up with the flip phone design, and then eventually they got rid of the flip design and made phones that did not flip open, but had large screens on them.
2000 and Beyond
The early 2000's were dominated by the Raz'r phones. These were sleek, small phones that could fit in your pocket. They had a very attractive look and were popular among many people.
Blackberry also became a household name. This was the early version of the smart phones that are now available. With the Blackberry, you could check your email right from your phone.
Today, the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy phones dominate the market. These smart phones enable you to do many things from the touch of your phone. Smart phones have taken over the cellular world, and you will rarely see the old flip phones.
Smart phones affect so much in our world today, especially business and way people communicated. Now, it’s a major feat to manage service for a business -
