Spontaneous human combustion (SHC) is the alleged burning of a person's body without a readily apparent, identifiable external source of ignition. The combustion may result in simple burns and blisters to the skin, smoking, or a complete incineration of the body. The latter is the form most often 'recognized' as SHC. There is much speculation and controversy over SHC. It is not a proven natural occurrence, but many theories have attempted to explain SHC's existence and how it may occur. The two most common explanations offered to account for apparent SHC are the non-spontaneous "wick effect" fire, and the rare discharge called static flash fires. Although mathematically it can be shown that the human body contains enough energy stored in the form of fat and other tissues to consume it completely, in normal circumstances bodies will not sustain a flame on their own.
This is a freaky thing, what do you know about it?.

Wow! That was more than I knew and I know of SHC.
I first heard about it when I was much much younger. I was fascinated by things that were unexplained! I still am to this day. But now that I am older, I have less time to fixate on it anymore.
But don't get me wrong, I still love the paranormal!!!
Thanks for the info on it! It makes me want to go read more on the topic!

That would be very scarey! Would it even help to stop, drop, and roll if the flames were coming from internally?

Yes I have heard about this and it always sounds like a fairy tale but I have no proof that it never happened. There are so many things in the human body that we don't understand and I doubt that we ever will.
Lets hope we don't become the next human bonfire :)

your right, there are so many books and so many shows on it, but nothing has ever provin that it really even exists.

It hasn't been yet proven although there are cases of such alleged SHC way back 1900s

I think I have a friend that knows to much. Most scientists deny the fact that this could ever happen. This is a terme that was first used in a sci-fi movie and then made the world around. Now, the most recent film that used this expression was the X-files. I think, given the data in the series of x-files this thing can really happen. It is just something scientists don't admit so not to get people scared.

I always get a bit freaked out reading about it, yet it is so interesting. I have a book here with things from the unexplained and it has photo's of people who have been burnt to a pile of ashes. What was left was like only a leg and a shoe and thats really quite scarey.

i've read about it somewhere, but all of the research on this subject is still inconclusive. but the existing evidence is also very interesting. i hope i don't need to experience it myself :-)
