In Chinese, there is a popular saying that Tibet is a must see in your whole life since it’s the land nearest the paradise. Hence, when I finished my undergraduate internship in a local hospital, I went to Tibet with another backpacker in May. It’s a wonderful memory I would cherish for life.
Deep in the spectacular Himalayan Mountains, Tibet is a jewel of a destination. The land area of Tibet is a quarter of China, much of which is extremely remote and inhospitable. While Tibet's capital, Lhasa, is a hive of activity. It is a focus for large numbers of pilgrims especially around the Potala Palace.
Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lama, is an immense religious structure and a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. It’s an amazing place steeped in Buddhist culture of peace and spirituality. A place that has special magical energy. The 20 or so rooms open to the public (no Photos permitted inside) are amazing with lots of interesting Buddhas and Lamas as well as working monks. Besides, the palace has a spectacular setting. It is imposing with its dominant position overlooking the valley. Because the steps are quite steep, it takes sufficient time to climb, especially when I had a cold at that time.
Indeed, everything about Potala Palace is amazing, especially the devotion of the pilgrims who circle the palace all day long spinning prayer wheels and chanting their mantras.
