Spelling lessons and activities

I am working as teacher for the past 4 months and I am teaching students in 1st grade. I am assigned to conduct a spelling activity in the school after the holidays. The activity will be for kids in the 1st and 2nd grade. I googled and found a few activities but they are all heard and tried out things. I would like to conduct something new. So if you have any suggestion, please tell me. Thanks a lot...

As you said you will find many spelling activities on the net. And these are being used teachers even now. Recently I bought an ebook on classroom behavior
management from the site This site has many ebooks that are helpful to teachers and I think you will be able to find books on quick spelling activities there. Check out the site and let me know if you find something.

One idea I can suggest:
Make small groups, give each group few words to memorized, then make group contest.
Another idea:
Give plenty of letter toy, it may be made of hard paper. Give some words to the group, they have to memorized the spelling. After that they have to produce the memorized words by the letter toy.
Which group makes more words will be rewarded.
