The real meaning of the book,The Old Man and the Sea

As is well known, Ernest Hemingway's famous novel, 'The Old Man and The Sea' won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. Other than the story by itself, there are some interesting facts about this book. Some of them are the following.
1.This book has only 27000 words( about 125 pages) and is one of the shortest works which has won the Nobel Prize.
2.When it was featured in 'Life' magazine during September 1952, the magazine itself sold out 5 million copies in just two days.
3. The novel's hero is a Cuban fisherman, named Santiago.
4.When this novel was first made into a movie ,the famous Spencer Tracey portrayed the role of the Old fisherman, Santiago.
5.The philosophical and symbolic meaning is he fact that the human spirit is indomitable and undaunted by disappointments, failures, obstacles; however harsh and difficult they are.
