Windows Vs. Linux - Windows Vs. Linux
I think Windows OS is more suitable for people who just start to use computer. Because Windows OS is more visible, easy interface and options, more for home-based use. Linux is more suitable for developers, it's much safer and easier to implement programs. Recently, Linux is helping itself to be more easy to use, hope it goes OK

Depends on the machines your going to use, I would prefer Linux if your machine is used as a server, it much more stable. If its for the end user, then go for Windows.

Well, from a security standpoint, Linux in the past has been a better solution for businesses, and recently for Home Pc's. At this years LinuxCon, HP announced that they will be making laptops available for sale with a Linux distro pre-installed. On the other side of the coin, if you are into gaming, Go with windows. I have run many different versions of Linux in the past, and it has always proven a daunting task to get my favorite games to run, if they did at all. In the end it all comes down to 1 question. What do you need your computer to do? If it's for business/web apps, things like that, Go Linux. If you want entertainment value, go Windows.

Just remembering, that it is possible to have both installed on the same machine, it is not hard as it seems, and there are good tutorials out there in the net.

windows is easier - most of the time they have written instructions that basically do it for you. The biggest annoyance is if you have to call them and they route your call to India to someone who BARELy speaks english. Software is good though, almost eveything runs on windows now

IF LINUX IS ALREADY INSTALLED AND RUNNING: then I go for linux. The main reason people find Linux difficult is because they are so used to Windows, that they find the shift to linux, and the unlearning of a score of things difficult. So if you are new to computers, don't know to identify one end of the mouse from the other, then both linux and windows must be of the same difficulty. IF LINUX IS NOT INSTALLED, BUT WINDOWS IS: Then maybe Windows will be easier.

Definetly windows. Its must easier to use, more user friendly, more colourful, and more programs are compatiable with windows. Linux would be totally confusing for beginners! I would suggest that you stay away from Linux if your a beginner.

I think Linux would gain more users if the hardware producers pay more attention to write also Linux drivers, not only Windows drivers... Windows had a better system help, but I noticed also that some Linux distributions improved and centralized the OS Help.

Windows it is for a beginner, only because Linux does not have drivers for many of the applications, accessories. From the safety point of view, cost, ease of use Linux is good. As I said the only thing lacking is drivers for a number of applications, specially the older ones.

What I personally feel is that a person who does not have any knowledge of any Operating System is introduced to windows or Linux he gets customized with the first OS is is been introduce. So if he is introduced to Linux first then he may feel Linux is much easier than windows and vice versa. As an example many states in India teaches linux to those who don't know anything about computers in order to make them computer literate. Many may think why Linux. Its just because it is affordable for such a mass community service. Computer literacy program using Linux have been successful in many parts of the world. So if some responds to this question by saying Linux and others Windows i think it is just because they got customized to the operating system they are using for a long time.

I am a linux lover and one of my pcs is loaded with Gentoo Linux which i use for my daily purposes and for downloading using bittorrent. Although the installation and initial catchup is a little difficult in linux but once you get to know it you will fall in love with it. My other PC is loaded with Windows XP which i mainly use for multimedia purposes and gaming. I will upgrade to Windows Vista when it releases . I liked the beta version very much especially their new user interface with which they finally managed to challenge the best linux user interfaces out there. Gaming is one area Linux is yet to catch up in which the windows has a big advantage. Windows is very user friendly easy to use OS but you wont get the power, safety, stability and security you get on linux. Also linux has great community support and lot of open source free programs for all kind of purposes. I just love linux. Now most of the branded PC makers like HP, Dell are offering linux with their PC to bring down the cost. Actually I feel software is something which should be free and opensource like the ones out there for linux. Sourcefourge has a large collection of such softwares for all kinds of purposes and they are well supported by experienced user communities. SO why spent all those hard earned money on softwares.
