Well we all are habitual with the term BA which specifically stands for Business Analyst. If you ask me the job responsibilities of a BA, I will simply say that a BA helps businesses do better business. They do market, financial and customer analysis and helps bringing about changes on the policies to achieve greater profit. In short they know what will work and what will not.
Problem solver guy!
BA’s are also considered to be the problem solving guys. Whenever there is a problem in the implementation of a project or program these are the guys who are approached and these are the guys who are suppose to solve the problem
Now, have you ever considered what will happen if I add an ‘S’ in the designation of a BA?
Business Systems Analyst
Well for starters, the BSA guy isn’t a programmer although he can have programming knowledge. He is not even a software tester although he can know how to test software. The guy is not even a database administrator. Although he can do it, no doubts about it. So what is this guy?
Like a BA the job of a BSA is also to study business and detect the need of the business. The only difference being, the focus of the BSA guy is the needs related to the IT Department. That’s why the ‘S’ of Systems in between.
The sole responsibility of the BSA guy is to bring knowledge and modeling techniques to the table. He is not just a guy with a deep knowledge of software and user application but a person who can do business analysis as well.
A BSA is also known to be a problem solving guy. The only difference being he solves problems related to the technological side of the business.
Need for a BSA
In any IT company, be it big or small, we need an IT Business Systems Analyst. The reason being, the relationship between a programmer and a business person might go terribly wrong in the absence of a BSA. The BSA acts like a bridge in between these two species.
The programmers are the creative guys. They are the imagination and brains behind software or an application. The business guys are the money making kind. They think about the market and profit. A BSA is someone who is like an in between guy. He has knowledge of both the worlds and keeps both the species happy and satisfied.
In an IT company it’s the BSA who makes the communication between the Business and the IT department. He understands the technological need of the IT department. Needs that are important to fulfill if you want to develop a particular software or app.
Educational qualifications of a BSA
The BSA mostly posses a degree in Computer Science or a Management degree in Information Systems. Add-on knowledge in the field of Marketing and Accounts is admirable.
The job profile requires a lot of logical and abstract, out of the box thinking. The guy has to be good in logical reasoning.
