How many of you lost out on reservations. I did on many occasions. Its not bad to have a system for upliftment but it should not come at the cost of merit. what do u say??

Say no to quotas - Down with quotas
Quotas have been in effect in India for over 59 years now. Neither have the reserved categories been uplifted, nor have they used the quota system as they should have. Most of the individuals in my engineering college who entered through reserved category quotas openly proclaimed that they were studying engineering only for the purpose of demanding a higher dowry from the women they would marry some day. It's a sad and pathetic sight to see the government cheat its own meritorious people out of an education, charge them for the fees the reserved categories are exempted from and then result in a breed of non performing individuals with narrow minds and backward goals such as dowry. The introduction of quotas into the private sector will ruin the country's enterprise and industry completely. It's time the government started thinking about the greater good of the nation instead of their political vote banks. Fat chance that'll ever happen. The fact that the quota percentages were increased after over fifty nine years of quotas yielded almost no results clearly shows that the government's decision is heavily affected by its own selfish political interests. India preaches that all citizens are equal. Then it goes on to define "unequal" backward classes. If the government feels so strongly about uplifting the so called classes, why does it fly the Prime Minister to Breach Candy Hospital to be operated upon by a master surgeon? Why not give a doctor who was given the job because he was from a reserved category? Why not keep slots in the Indian cricket team for such individuals. If BPOs and call centres are being forced to do so, regardless of the applicant's level of communication, why not let them swing a bat for us? After all, they're physically just as able as us. This also means that the ministers of this country should travel in aeroplanes piloted by a person who was given the job due to a quota. The truth is that these people are no longer backward. They're born equals in every respect, and the only thing ensuring that the become backward is the fact that they're brainwashed about it through these ridiculous quotas. They've gotten used to getting their admissions and jobs on a silver platter. This is to their disadvantage, as they stop striving and struggling, and hence, stop developing as individuals. Often, it is in not striving forwards that we remain backwards. In my opinion, the quota system does more harm than good in more ways than one.

I have also suffered because of reservations. But at the same time we have to ask ourselves, How to integrate those who are left behind with the main stream. Too much of anything is bad. Quotas, reservations should be rationalized and freed from politics.
