Digital film making is going to eventually knock off the shelf film making. There are digital film cameras, like the RED, that can film up to 5,000 lines of resolution, making the difference on the big screen almost impossible to differentiate. San Andrea quake , for example, was filmed on the RED, using only hard drives to capture the data, instead of film reels. In my option, digital film making makes more sense. You use non-linear systems to edit the footage, meaning you can edit in any order you so choose to do so, making it much way easier to remember and save your work. Film camera are a major aspect of what time of film maker you are another example , your light is different form the film than you would would use on digital film. Most film cameras record directly to the film it self making lighting more crucial. Digital Film uses hard drives and memory cards to capture the footage but sometimes mini DivX and Dvc take a making it easier to navigate.

Nothing ever stays the same especially technology I am 56 and have seen so many changes, not sure what the world will be like in 10 years time. Happy writing.
