“Do you find a change in your tastes and appreciations as you grow old?

I am getting old; but my mind refuses to feel old. Moreover, I find I have the same appreciation of certain things, which I had had in my childhood and college days. I sing the same songs with the same gusto I showed forty years back; watch the same movies with an enthusiasm that transports me to that period; giggle and fool around in a similar manner [though nowadays it is slightly tempered with conscious laborious effort]. I try new dishes with the same enthusiasm and behave the same way as I did a long time ago. I find it gives me happiness and do not want to feel old Only in reading, I am better these days and see a change [old favorites are still favorites but there are certain additions]What are your views on this?

Agreed there are some (or many) things that you cannot do due to physical aging, but feeling young or old is all about mindset. I still want to try too many things. Right this morning, I was getting drenched in the rain and playing jump-the pool of water with some local kids in the vicinity... and I enjoyed every second of it.

@thesids Hi Sid! I can well understand the feeling; in fact it is easier for you males than for us with some ten yards of sarees dripping in rain during monsoon. I deliberately choose light snthetic sarees during monsoon to avoid prolonged dampness in the event of getting wet in rain.I still would love it. I would also love to be able to dance unreservedly.

The opportunities that opened up later in my life were not there in my childhood and so I cannot say I am the same person that I was in the good old days. I never knew I could write poetry. I never knew I was good in , landscaped garden designing I could go on and on Kala. , We were kind of stifled but after marriage the floodgates opened.

That is very much true. I too changed after marriage because earlier i had had a very sheltered upbringing but now I am totally different. I too have had similar experience in getting opportunity to unearth hidden talents. But I feel that my preferences remain the same as ever. However, i have no regrets because it does not hurt anyone else; as long as it does not hurt me I am okay with it.

@kalav56 Here too I beg to differ with you Kala. When opportunities open then preferences too could be different. To be able to prefer or choose one must have choices which I got only later in my life. For example I like Chinese food which I never tasted when I was younger. I have travelled far and wide all this later in life.

@allknowing My prefernces in entertainment and relaxation techniques have not changed allknowing-- same old songs, same old actors and actresses, same old books --what was a favourite thirty years ago continues to be a favourite. I giggle and have fun the same way I used to do earlier. I have had some additions as far as extra know how in certain areas and that was due to exposure. This CHinese food has become popular in our own country only for the past twenty and odd years and Maggie noodles has had a great role to play isn't it?
