We all know and hear about the family feud between the Hatfields and McCoy's, both familes combined...about 12 people died in the fighting. And between the two, was the border of Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. The fighting offically ended in a peace signed in 2003. But I'm guessing it really ended years before. Archaeologists are now digging around the home of Randall McCoy, the patriarch of the McCoy clan. The Hatfields burnt the McCoy house to the ground, with some family members in it. Word got out to both families, and now decendents from both the Hatfields and McCoys are helping dig thru the old homestead. It was a different time, different era. Because a peace was "offically" signed in 2003, I figure the generations that followed have made their peace with it. They've heard the family stories, read about the fight..... this, this digging into it makes it all real, that something big DID happen between the families.
The Hatfield and McCoy descendants came armed — with digging tools.
