Questions about MyLot

I must have signed up for MyLot some time ago as I was very surprised to find I am already a member here, but I never posted. I have been trying out the site and finally found where some of the answers to my questions were, but I have others.
Why did my total $ go down overnight? Does the algorithm mean the total adjusts according to some scoring thing? I know that nobody knows quite how the money part is worked out, but I was just a bit surprised to see a slight decline. Do I take it that that amount is not the real total?
Next, I want to know if there is a limit to the number of posts per day. I cannot see anything about that and how about the length of what you write?
Is a sentence to start a discussion OK?
How do people best use this site?
I think quite a few of us who are new to actually using the site are going to have questions at the moment, so if anyone could fill us in we would all probably be grateful!

Hello HappyLady,
"Why did my total $ go down overnight?" Because mine increased
. I do not know exactly how the new earning system works and we are not supposed to talk about the earning algorithm. In the past the balance was updated only once a day, and there were adjustments times to times. Now that the balance is often updated, there are more adjustments. You are not paid if a discussion is deleted for a violation of the guidelines. So, if you respond to a discussion violating the guidelines, your balance will increase after a hour or two and will decrease later when the discussion will be deleted. It can also increase : by example, if you write a discussion and have no response to it, you are not paid for it. But if somebody respond several days later, you will see your balance increasing.
"Next, I want to know if there is a limit to the number of posts per day. I cannot see anything about that and how about the length of what you write?" If you cannot see anything, it is because there is no limit. Two days ago a new member started 28 discussions... all plagiarized
.
"Is a sentence to start a discussion OK?" There is no minimum size to start a discussion (well, if it is empty or only emoticons, it will be deleted), but you should not forget that you will be paid only for quality discussions, and that a discussion with only one sentence will perhaps not be a quality discussion.
"How do people best use this site?" I cannot respond to this one. For me myLot is a kind of club where I can discuss about quite anything and have fun with other members while earning a little money.

I assume that my post is ok then? I am not discussing what the algorithm is, just how the earnings work in terms of what I see on my profile. Where does it say we cannot discuss the alogorithm though? Most of us new people will not have a clue unless someone mentions it. I don't mind not discussing it, but just cannot find the guidelines.

@Jackalyn Your post is perfect. It was forbidden to discuss about the algorithm in the previous myLot guidelines. Then myLot stopped to pay and suppressed it. GoAskAlice told us that the guidelines were a work in progress, and I suppose that this rule will come back soon (it seems logical). As no member can tell exactly how the algorithm works, these discussions have no interest.

Hi and welcome back!
1. Earnings will sometimes fluctuate, this has always been the case, but with the updates occurring hourly rather than daily now, expect to notice it more.
2. There is no limit to the number of quality posts you can make per day. the more the merrier!
3. It is a very rare discussion that can stand as a single sentence. They happen and I have allowed them in the past, but it is very rare.
4. Regarding your problem, is this a problem occurring with certain posts or posts from certain people? Or is it every post? Can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing when this problem occurs?

Welcome to MyLot, Jackie!
It seems that most of your questions have already been answered. It would, indeed, be wise to regard the Earnings figure as an 'estimate' at the moment. Although they recently announced that they were going to 'double the earnings' (though that didn't seem to affect earnings from previous days), they could, just as easily, reduce them. At the moment, and certainly for the next month or so, they are testing the algorithm and it mustn't, of course, tell them to them pay out more than the company is bringing in in revenue.
There is no limit to the number of posts you can make here a day (and nor is there any set limit on how long or how short a post may be, within the constraints given in the Guidelines). Earnings here are 'activity driven' rather than 'post driven', so its not as important to post discussions as it is to post articles in the other place.

@mommyboo What you earn is based on your interaction, though it's also affected somewhat by how much others value your discussions, responses and comments. The way it is calculated is secret and unknown to us ordinary mortals and, in the past, we were forbidden to even try to guess its workings, but there are a couple of hints in the Earnings Program FAQs (See under "Help"). It is certainly a very complex algorithm and demonstrably fairer than one which relies on other people's activity to increase one's own earnings and gives you no credit for making valuable comments on others' posts!

I'm certainly glad there is no post limit or limit to comments and other discussion, that is one thing that really has turned me off at other sites. I also don't like having to create posts of a certain length or limit them because then you have people who fill up a post with nonsense to make it long enough, or deciding what important parts to leave out of something too long. I REALLY hope you still earn based on what you do -such as discuss on other posts - not just writing your own or responding within them. If it's based more on what other people post on YOUR things, or likes, that is too dependent on other people to suit my taste lol. Some days I will be around, others I won't. I'm sure that's everybody's dilemma.
