Veterans Mistreated at VA Hospitals

This is deeply personal, because I'm a disabled veteran. I don't have near the problems that a lot of people who served do, however. I served in relative peace time, when the worst thing I had to encounter was smart-mouthed junior officers who weren't smart enough to spell their own names. Nobody shot at me. I didn't encounter a child and wonder if he was going to blow himself up the way Vietnam veterans did with the guerrilla warfare they had to endure (and a similar thing with religious extremists killing themselves while hoping to take a few members of "the great satan" with them).
The VA hospitals treat their patients like dog excrement. I saw one veteran physically removed from the emergency room waiting area because he was sick of sitting there, waiting for eight hours, and let a few profanities fly while asking how much longer he had to wait. He asn't loud (although above a conversational level), threatening, or dangerous...just frustrated. And instead of answering his question, they had the hospital security walk him out of the building. Last week, a friend of mine buried his son, an Iraqi War veteran with depression, PTSD, and alcohol addiction. He took his own life after the VA couldn't find time to help him cope with his issues. (Meanwhile, some jerk politician said that he wouldn't vote for increased funding to treat PTSD to try to stop the 23 suicides by veterans daily because "It would be a waste of money.")
Why are criminals and illegal immigrants treated better in this country than the men and women who served in the military?

@FourWalls Why? Because the government is corrupt to the core. I believe that 99% of the politicians are bought and paid for. They will do anything to protect the money from corruption that flows into their pockets and to keep it flowing. Lives, our lives and the lives of veterans mean absolutely nothing to them. It becomes more obvious every day. They way veterans are treated is worse than a disgrace. It's inhumane. Only when the voters become informed and oust the career politicians will things begin to change. And thank you, FourWalls, for your service.

It's pretty disgusting that our government can send people overseas to fight, and then not take care of them when they come back. Or even if they don't fight. I don't agree with every war that we've gotten ourselves into, but the guys who went over and fought them deserve our respect, and our support. If our politicians and/or their loved ones had served, they wouldn't treat veterans this way.

Our government really chaps my hide. I was married to the military, my son is in the military and I live in a military town. My ex-husband fought for years with the VA to get his physical problems taken care of. He was Airborne and broke his leg on a jump, while he was still active duty everything was taken care of but after retiring he had to fight for every bit of medical care that he got. If our country would stop wasting so much money on foreign aid and over paying the worthless politicians there would be cash to help out the veterans. As far as VA hospitals go I have been to the one here in Fayetteville a few times and I am always astounded at the long waiting periods and how inconsiderate the staff are. Its as if they are not being paid for their time there.

It is a sad state of affairs when our veterans are treated this way by the organization that is supposed to be there specifically to help them. Between cost cutting conservatives who are willing to vote for big weapons programs but not for veteran care and a liberal administration that couldn't care less about veterans, I don't see much hope fo things improving.
