I have always feared dentist, I don't know why. I will only go to the dentist if I have sever pain or some major problem. I could never bring myself to go to a dentist for a clean up and other cosmetic procedures. Does anyone here have the fear of dentist.. it need not be not a debilitating fear but a general dislike for going to the dentist.

Well, it doesn't need to be said but I will say it - not doing the preventative visits make the other kind of visits more likely. But I had a terrible dentist as a child and when I was old enough, I quit going. Later in life I had an emergency and went back to a new dentist and now I am not afraid anymore. Still, I don't want to see one any more than is absolutely necessary.

@Rollo1 True.. I guess I did have a lousy dentist as a child.. now I will let no one except my nephew touch my teeth.. I am not afraid, but I am certainly not comfortable.

Nope, I love my dentist. I have been going to him since I was 12.. I'm 48 now. And now his daughter has also become a dentist and is set to take over his practice.. My dentist and all his staff are great.

That is one thing you really have to face. It will be difficult for your oral health if you stand alone with out an advice of a doctor unless you can extract your own tooth when needed.

the stuff filled in the teeth 5 years ago is separated .so I have to visit the dentist this spring .he refill the caries with some material I don't know .after that .I cant use the tooth .it is painful when I eat or drink .my dentist tell me that is because my tooth nerve is almost bare .but to prevent the nerve .he didnt killed the nerve so I feel painful .2 months later .the painless disappear .thank god .I don't need to visit the dentist for a long time .by the way .the most fear things when I visit a dentist isn't the painless but the hygiene I think .mabey I am a neat -freak girl ....

@xiaolisu I agree it isn't the pain.. I hate the proximity and the hygiene related stuff.

It is not one of my favorite things to do but I understand the importance of it and go every 6 months. I also had a horrible dentist as a child and had bad experiences. It took finding a dentist I love to make it work for me.

I don't have this fear, but I think it is very expensive to go to the dentist. This is why I only go there when I have a problem.

I too have a fear of the dentist. She now knows to be able to do anything in my mouth, she has to knock me out. But if all fairness, I warned her before hand.
