We have many family traditions in our family. One of them is a get together of all my brothers and their families once a year. We usually have a two or three day get to together. This used to be around Christmas earlier, now its in summer to make it convenient for all to attend The children usually prepare an hour's worth of entertainments for the elders in the family on the last day. They also create a family news letter which is sent to each family after the get to together. It is a wonderful reminder of the good times we have had. Do you have any such family traditions which you enjoy?

Since everyone is grown now, and scattered to the winds. We no longer share any family traditions. We try to get together as often as possible.

@sofssu Yes, it is sad. We all have lives, and the distance plays a major factor in our ability to get together. We either have to travel 12 hours one way or 8 hours another. Actually we are planning on the 12 hour trip some time next month. And the 8 hour one a couple months after that.

@TexanTornado Glad you can visit them.. some consolation. I cannot take these long trips.. are they road trips.. they positively wear me out.

@TexanTornado sad but unavoidable.. I guess this could happen as the kids grow up and move far away. This summer a couple of my nephews and nieces couldn't join us as they are in other countries.

There's peanut salad for Thanksgiving and Christmas. My mom's great-grandmother, who was from Germany, came up with the recipe. Peanuts were cheap in Georgia, and times were tough.

@sofssu More like a Waldorf salad, peanuts (crushed with a rolling pin), bananas, apples, mayo and a dash of mustard. Boiled peanuts? lol Isn't that a North/South Carolina thing?

@dawnald I live in the other side of the globe. Boiled peanuts is always a hit with my family. I should try the one you have mentioned one of these days.

Peanut salad? Hmm sounds good. I make a peanut salad with boiled peanuts, onions and fresh herbs. I love it. What kind is yours?

@allknowing I love the Christmas traditions more than these summer reunions. I'd rather everyone be present, than have it at Christmas and miss a few. Summer seems to be the best time for most of us in the family. I happy either ways.

I have a small family, but we do get together at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Those are the special times for our family, and those times we really have a great time reminiscing.
