Halloween Candy, oh my!

A few days ago I was in the local Dollar General store to pick up a few things. Halloween candy wasn't on my list, but it was on the shelves! By the time Halloween rolls around won't that candy be stale? That is assuming people buy it to stock up.
If I were to buy Halloween candy now, it would be long gone by that day. Not that we buy candy to give out - in the 14 years we've lived in this state, in 4 different homes, we only had kids ring the bell one time and those were the neighbors' kids. I like it like that!

Candy corn goes stale fast, chocolate candy should last a year, but if it gets warm then cold the chocolate turns white and it doesn't look appetizing.

@AbbyGreenhill OXO POP Containers are awesome when it comes to storing candy corn. I've had it stay fresh for months after opening in one of those.

@yukimori What is an OXO POP container? Do you have a photo maybe write about it! I love candy corn so I eat the whole bag myself!

Have you seen the expiration dates on some of those candies? You can buy them on clearance this year and use them next year or the year after with no problems!
In fact, that's what I do with candy canes...
Can't beat getting a dozen for a quarter or less!
I think the idea is that you see it, go "Hey, candy corn!" and buy some... then you have to buy more because it's somehow disappeared in a week or two. If we buy Halloween candy, we just eat it ourselves. Trick or treaters here go up to the more affluent neighborhoods to extort goodies. We just take the kids over to the zoo... they walk around and get a couple of handfuls of candy, we get to see some of the nocturnal animals prowling around... win-win situation if you ask me! Plus it's completely free with our paid membership.

I didn't even think of that. But if I buy candy its for us and it doesn't last long. The Zoo in Knoxville does that and I bet most other zoos also.

I have notied that here too, at Walmart, as they are putting out the halloween costumes already. Talk about early. It seems they get earlier and earlier every year. I don't buy halloween candy, as I live alone, and I don't answer my door. I turn all the lights out and make believe I am not home, and I don't get any at my door.

We never owned a house that sat close to a street, we're in the county so no kid is going to walk to our house.

@AbbyGreenhill There arfe oodles of kids where I live, so to avoid giving out candy I don't have, just leaving off the porchlight and leaving my light off inside, keeps them away, thank goodness. I did gert some coming to my door even with the porch light off, so I figured ifI shut off the lights insside, then they will think I am gone and not come to my door, and it does work. You are lucky though, living out in the country where no kids are. I used to live in the country back in the 70"s and 80"s. and was never bothered by them.

@rosekiss When we lived in Jersey we had hundreds of kids at the door. Another good reason to live in the country.
