My own worst enemy

I've been a night owl my whole life, but the situation got a lot worse once the internet came along, and with the passage of time it seems to get worse and worse. No matter how often I promise myself that I'll start keeping normal hours, I seem to be unable to do it. The fact that it's having a bad effect on my 'real' life doesn't seem to make any difference to me.
I need to change, but somehow there's always an excuse. Tonight's excuse was that I couldn't think of a topic for a new discussion, so now that I've thought of this one, I guess I can finally go to bed.

I started working after school when I was fifteen. I would put in a nine hour day on top of the time I was in school. When I got out of school I gravitated toward truck stops for work and usually drew third shift. Oh. didn't mind, in fact I really enjoyed it. The truckers who came in at night had more time to talk and I learned a lot about all the different places I wanted to go. When I got married and started having kids I almost never slept. In fact I had one child that would sleep clear through the night only as long as one of us stayed up to watch her do it. If we both tried to go to bed after we had her asleep, five minutes later she would be screaming at the top of her voice. When I finally got the kids grown I was able to get a more balanced attitude of waking and sleeping, or so I thought but I found with age I needed less sleep about four to six hours so I still go to bed real late and get up early. I am finding a mid morning nap useful, however.

@savak03 It sounds like you're one of those lucky people who doesn't need a lot of sleep. Unfortunately I'm not one of them. I rarely get enough sleep and always wake up tired. Those days when I have early appointments I need a lot of coffee to keep me going through the day.

I don't do much online stuff in the evenings. When my hubby gets home from work I get off the computer and spend time with him. We'll talk about our day a little bit, then maybe sit down and watch some TV. I try to go to bed by 10 so I get enough sleep to get me through work the next day.
Tonight I'll be volunteering to sell spirit wear at the football game so I'll probably be up late.

@katsmeow1213 I need to learn to stay away from my computer after watching TV. Being online late at night is a bad habit I acquired in the days when I was using dial-up and the charges were much lower then than in the daytime.

Well, I think there are lots of people who can relate with you and I am one of them. When I was younger I can't seem to sleep without reading a book, now with the surge of internet and gadgets I read through an e-book and even online articles. It seems that every single time I am into my laptop or into my mobile I couldn't get enough. I kept on clipping webpage by webpage instead of paper pages.

@kixsh101 Part of my problem is that I like reading books but don't leave myself much time to do so. Instead I often waste time reading articles about things that I don't really need to know about. I also have activities that I need to spend time on when the sun is shining, but I can't wake up early enough to spend as much time on them as I should.

and when i do try to sleep earlier, i can't because my body clock is messed up.
