What's your name and how do you spell it?

Remember the 'old days' when people spelled their names the 'right' way? when Mary was Mary and Jane was Jane. Now if you want to use someone's first name you have to try to figure out which way they spell it. Jane is either Jayne or Jain or some other weird spelling. Mary could be Meri or Merri or Merrie or...and it goes on. Names like Alen, or Allen or Toni or Tony or Tonie - what a person to do? How do you spell someone's first name if you don't know how they spell it in the first place?

I actually like the spelling of Jayne. I think it is unique and I like the Y in it. My name is Lindsey, spelled with an E. A lot of people spell it with an A, but Im glad my parents picked an E. My daughters are Jaelyn and Nora, so kind of unusual names.

I don't think Nora is unusual at all it is more of an old fashioned name but very nice.

Well I like my unusual spelling of Jackalyn. It was a nightmare at school though as teachers did not get it and if you want me to see red, just put a "q" in it or even worse call me "Jaqui"

My name is Anthony but some people will either pronounce it Antony or will leave it at Ant. Personally I don't mind that much but quite often I just need to make sure they know how to pronounce and in turn spell it correctly.

@AbbyGreenhill I agree it is very easy but people seem to always confuse it with Antony

If I can't ask them, I just have to guess. Since my back ground is Irish I am used to "odd" spelling from way back. If you hear some one say their name is Chivawn - you would be unlikely to spell it Siobhan! I grew up with these names so other unusual spellings don't seem odd to me.
