Why do people associate leather with gay people? / myLot

Many people regard leather clothing as something that mainly gay people wear. Of, course this couldn't be further from the truth. Yes, it may be true that many gays enjoy wearing leather jackets and leather pants, but on the other hand so do bikers, rockers, actors, etc. I believe that people should not be judges by how they look and dress but rather by their words and actions. What do you think of people connecting leather clothing style with gay people mainly?

It is new to me. I thought when we say leather, the person who usually wore it are tough guys in a bike :)

Yes, they are...but if you go into the streets and ask people who they associate leather with, they mostly say bikers and gays.

People also associate leather with Doms and such and motorcycle gangs. I associate leather with purses and handbags and awesome leather jackets. I hardly think of gay people when I think of leather, altho I have seen some awes leather bars lolz

Well yes, of course you think of fashionable clothes and accessories first, but if you think of people, the closest association is to bikers and gays.

@LiamLeath I do? But I just told you I hardly think of gay people regarding their use or non use of leather. It is a non issue in my life.

When I think of leather I think of biker gear. I love riding and in the past I have had my own leather jacket and wore it proudly. That is what I associate with leather. A good leather jacket and chaps for riding motorcycles.
