As well as the big Manchester Central Library I often visit my local library, which is a strange garish yellow bubble box building, looking like a cross between a construction site portacabin and the Beatle's Yellow Submarine. Street art depicts scenes of typical Northern British life. It is a perfectly good library on the inside.

It certainly looks an unusual and somewhat temporary building but, at the same time, is not unattractive and is certainly noticeable and functional. I like the artwork which seems to commemorate the building of Blackpool Tower. Is that right? It looks as though a local firm was responsible for the construction and is remembered here.

It is Blackpool Tower. I think the workers depicted are just generic industry rather than working on the tower. The library looks temporary but it has been here for over thirty years.

@arthurchappell A little research shows that Heenan & Froude were established in 1881 in Newton Heath and that their most famous creation was the 518 feet (158 m) high Blackpool Tower. The date of 1894 is the year that the Blackpool tower opened. I think that the steelwork depicted as being worked on would give any architect (and Health and Safety person) nightmares but it's a lively and eye-catching design, nonetheless! (I quoted the height of Blackpool Tower straight from Wikipedia and wonder how often the height in metres can be obtained by reversing the first two digits of the height in feet!)
