I have seen some really dumb special offers in the shops lately. Pies selling at 66p right beside exactly the same pies selling at 64p. Packs of four selling cheaper than packs of two of various items. One that really bugs me is two litre bottles of cola on a buy one get one free deal. Great if I am going home but if going out and not being a driver, I can't drag four litres of drink round with me all day.

I haven't seen anything similar here. sounds really dumb.. but is it closer to the expiry date or something?

Sometimes yes, though lots of shops here do 'loss leader' deals, were they sell a few items a zero profit or an actual loss to draw customers in, and a few forget about similar stock already on the shelves

If you are a regular buyer of a store , you will know if indeed you can get a discount from their promos.
