Bills sign TE Murphy
November 23, 2006 7:45pm CST
Matt Murphy was signed by the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday as the team bolstered its injury-depleted tight end corps. A four-year NFL veteran, Murphy had been out of football since his release by Seattle before the start of this season. He spent the past three seasons with Houston and broke into the NFL with Detroit in 2002 as the Lions' seventh-round draft pick out of Maryland. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 268 pounds, he played only one season with Detroit and has three catches for 34 yards in 23 career games. Murphy's addition gives the Bills four tight ends heading into their game against Jacksonville this weekend. Buffalo promoted tight end Brad Cieslak from its practice squad last week after backup Ryan Neufeld was placed on injured reserve because of a foot injury.
