Movie clichés used in dozens of movies - quicksand peril

The love-interest blunders into quicksand. The hero ties himself to a tree on a long rope, jumps in and fishes her out, just before the rope snaps or the tree breaks. Later, chased by the villain, they lure him into the quicksand and watch him drown.

One of the many clichés used in the wonderful film "The Princess Bride". But because it was all played for laughs, it was entirely forgivable.
