Spoiler alerts. 1996 Baen Press
A Miles Vorkosagen adventure that changes the pace of much of the series. Miles finds that his death and resurrection in the preceding novel, Mirror Dance, is not without complications. He suffers severe epileptic blackouts and during one, he almost kills a man his mercenary expedition forces are rescuing.
An attempt to cover up his mistakes gets exposed and Miles is grounded, which he accepts. While on his home world Barryyar, he gets caught up in a plan to destroy the career of the chief of security, Simon Illyan, which will lead Miles to new responsibilities and powers, but can he use them, and can he cope with the loss of his previous position as admiral of an unofficial State funded pirate fleet?
Great character driven SF that never follows a set formula or gets remotely predictable.

Not an author I have read, but interesting, and might check it out. Right now reading some J. R Rain.

@arthurchappell been while since I read any spacey scifi, I tend to lean more on paranormal, or fantasy, but I have enjoyed a few good ones for sure over the years
