I live in spain, and while dog ownership is becoming more popular, the Spanish people are not as daft about dogs as some British and American people can be..but it seems things are changing.....
For many years dog rescue and shelter organisations have been run by foreigners and expats who have moved to Spain... but today... my friend and I went to a small fĂȘte, held by several local, Spanish animal organisations, to highlight the plight of abandoned dogs and cats... and an illegal trade in puppies.... many of the people who had stalls were wearing a t shirt with '" we have a voice" written on it.... and they were for sale, with the proceeds going to the main dog charity organisation, that organised the event....
.
I am very pleased to see the interest in such an event here in Spain, and even as we were walking home, more people and their dogs were still heading to the fĂȘte.
The picture is of our puppy who is now nine months old, and is a rescue dog himself....

I do not even want to know why people do not like animals. I do not even want to know how cruel people are towards animals

@sueznewz2 That's ok. You are speaking about your country and what happens there happens elsewhere. Awareness is felt in many countries. There are organisations in India that are educating the public about how animals should be treated.

@Bluedoll and @allknowing No I might not have made myself very clear,... they are not cruel to animals, no more than any other nation,... but they do not have the same sentimentality as some people do.... they are pets.... dogs... and they did not make much provision for stray, abandoned or abused animals... but that is changing ... I'm pleased to say...
in the financial crisis many people had to get rid of their pets abandon them as they did not have the money to keep them... which is very sad, for all concerned..
