Easy ways to save a few dollars

I read a post by Jessa Lyn where she asked for suggestions on how to stretch a budget. I don't have all the answers, but I do have a few that I would like to share with you. * Dryer Sheets - If you can't live without them, at least double the usage. I cut mine in half and sometimes I even use a half more than once. * Never use dryer sheets when drying your towels. Your towels will dry quicker and be more absorbent if you skip the fabric softener and/or dryer sheet. If you don't believe me, try it! *Shampoo - the labels always say lather, rinse and repeat. If you have been playing in the mud or using your head as a mop you might have to follow that. But, most of us can lather, rise and move on - why waste shampoo? *Hair cuts - My husband's haircut at a barber cost $10 - his haircut at my beauty shop costs $8 and she does a better job than the barber did. Shop around.

Nice. thanks for these. I also get my hair cut at a very cheap place, its like $11. Of course at times you may get what you pay for - Ive noticed my place has difficulty with anything more than a trim. But, if you dont have a fancy hairdo, may as well pay less!!

Where we go (my husband and I) they don't even have a list of charges, I just give her an amount that I think is fair and she's never complained yet!

I like all the tips you posted. I have done some of those but not all. You are right though, that if we follow these, we can save money. I am going to have to try the dryer sheet one, as I have never thought of doing that before. I didn't know that dryer sheets can make towels less absorbent. I mese them to soften the towels, but I guess I won't be using then anymore.

It works, I've done it both ways to test it out.

@AbbyGreenhill I will try the towel one. When it comes to cutting up the dryer sheets, I don't wash everyday,so I really don't use that many. I could still try it though, I expect.

I keep dryer sheets in the dryer until they curl up into little balls. I will add a new one after a few loads but I definitely get the most out of them. I also put an old towel in the dryer and keep it there. It helps the clothes dry faster by drawing the moisture from them. I add water to what appears to be an empty bottle of shampoo or conditioner, give it a good shake to get the excess off the sides and lid and use it a few more times. I have a special foot cream that I can only get by ordering packages of 3 online. It's in a tube so when I get down to what appears to be nothing, I cut the tube in half and get all the cream that is stuck on the sides and in the bottom. I have been cutting my own bangs the past couple of years. They may not look great but they always grow back. LOL!

I've started buying generic and store brands for things like kitchen towel, tissue, hand soap, even cereals. I don't know the price difference there but here they're significantly cheaper than other brands so that can help save a few bucks.

I have tried some store brands and some are good, some are awful. I bought a can of fruit cocktail (store brand) took one bit and threw it out. If I buy cheap and don't like it it's more a waste of money for us.

@AbbyGreenhill Yeah that's the downside of it, I guess. Luckily we haven't had issues with the store-brand products that we buy.

I have also found that certain cheap shampoos are cheap and take more soap to get clean with, and dollar store sizes for a dollar sometimes give you less than something at a bigger store for a similar price

I buy shampoo at the dollar store, but I buy a name brand which is cheaper there than at Wallyworld.

@sharon6345 yeah I bet soap matters less than conditioner since you put it in last

You have given a great tip.. It is always best to shop around to find a better bargain price that suits your budget. I only shampoo every other day as it might dry your hair. We all want to have beautiful and shiny hair
