On June 29, 2007, I visited my father for his cataract operation. He's okay. When I got a smoke, I noticed that I had difficulty breathing. I threw my cigarette and sat on the chair feeling bad with something in my stomach, fortunately not the chest.
After an hour in that condition, the discomfort subsided. Just to test, I smoked again and after 3 puffs, there goes that abdominal pain again. I thought I need to be brought to the hospital but I gave it a shot with prayer. This time it was a solemn prayer like I was talking to God, promising God that if he takes away the pain then I will not smoke anymore. In a few minutes, I felt better. And then I told my father that I had quit smoking. And all he said to me was, "Really?"
I had been a smoker for more than 30 years so who would believe that I would quit. The whole day of that June 29, no smoke for me, no cravings. That same condition prevailed on the following days. And to test my resolve, I still had my lighter in my pocket and the pack of cigarette in my car and the carton of cigarette in my home table.
After 1 month of not smoking, that was the time I gave away my 3 lighters and my packs of cigarettes. It's my talk with God that gave me the resolve. By the way, no cravings, no cold turkey, no withdrawal symptoms of any kind. And the only side effect is... I gained weight.

Yes, @Judy Story, I always promote my story so that others may learn from it. No magic, no secret, no tricks. Just a truce with God, a sincere promise and that's all there is to it.
