Was Shaw right in his definition of Patriotism?

George Bernard Shaw once said that "Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in it". I reckon that he had a point. People in some countries get very uptight about patriotism - saluting the flag and reciting oaths of allegiance, etc, while others are a lot more laid back - we Brits for example. So - is Patriotism overdone, and is it dangerous?

Hmmm, since I live in the (I believe) most patriotic place in the world (I think?) I can say I think sometimes it is way overdone. I have also lived over there, so I know how the difference is, a big difference. And it is hard to state your opinion on it, if not even dangerous to disagree at times, in this place lolz

Somebody once said that we Brits know that ours is the best country in the world, so we don't have to keep going on about it!
