Is anyone having a problem installing Skype or java on Windows 10? I am thinking unless one has a new computer like I have, there isn't a problem.
My laptop had 8.1 with Skype and Java already installed, so as far as I know, when I downloaded Windows 10, I still have these two programs.
However on my new computer, I downloaded Windows 10 before thinking of installing Java or Skype and I am not able to. I am wondering if I should go back to 8.1 and then redownload Windows 10.
I did go to the Microsoft Community first and here is the link to that:
As you can see, I was given an option that was already tried and hoping for a better solution

@changjiangzhibin89 Well, I think it depends on what you do. Like some programs for my schoolwork I might need a newer version. For example, my math lab is an online program where I do my homework and it is so touchy, that Mozilla firefox can't open it.

If you have Skype and Java on your computer and then update to windows 10, it will be fine. What I did was I took my new computer and updated to windows 10 first and I think that is the problem and I am not happy that on the Microsoft forum I only got one response (which didn't work and I said so) and then nothing!

@simone10 I know, usually there is someone who continues to try and help, but I guess since I mentioned that I did everything mentioned, they are clueless, but don't want to say that.

@Carmelanirel2 That's not good if they don't have support.

My son needs Java for minecraft and I need it for some of my online school work. As for Skype, I rarely use it, but I do have a friend in Texas who I sometimes Skype with.

@Carmelanirel2 Not off the top of my head. I've installed Skype on this computer but not on my laptop. I seem to remember that I somehow did it through Windows 10 rather than downloading it from the Skype website but I can't remember exactly what I did. I have to get the kids off to school in a bit, so I'll go boot the laptop up and see if I can't figure it out on there when I have them taken care of.

@yukimori Problem is, it isn't just Skype, I can't download ANYTHING, not even from a CD and last night my AVG (not my choice) wouldn't update. I did a system restore and that fixed the updating for AVG, but I still cannot download anything.

oh dear, i fear i'm still with windows 7 'n've no desire to upgrade nothin'. the daughter spent 3 hours tryin' to load skype fer me 'n ran into all sorts'f troubles 'fore she got such done. dunno why she bothered (she lives in 'nother state) coz she's ne'er the time to visit with me in such'a fashion. aint got nobody else to visit with on it either, lol. hopefully somebody'll 've clues to yer troubles? ya might add some'f those taggy thingies to alert the techies here?

You have Windows 7, so you probably are happy with it, but if you had 8 like I did, you would be rushing to get 10. I wanted to upgrade because even though I am in ,my last semester in college, my 13 y/o son is getting some online schoolwork and the more up to date we are, the better chance we can open some programs. (Plus I despised Windows 8
)
That is a good idea, about the tagging. I am always forgetting about that part..
