Comic Review –Archie Goodwin – The Incredible Hulk

1973. Marvel comics. Spoiler alerts. The Hulk has barely turned into Bruce Banner when seeing his girlfriend, Betty Ross with another man makes him jealously angry enough to Hulk out again. This proves timely as a US senator stricken with cancer, desperately tries to save himself by consuming Hulk blood taken from an army science lab. The senator turns into a blob monster very much modelled on The Blob from the Steve McQueen horror movie. Hulk struggles and even gets frightened by a slime-monster he can’t hit and hurt. The fight is well done but short with a cop-out ending when the creature is accidentally killed by lightning. It is refreshing to see the Hulk face an enemy that his strength can’t stop though.
