Can you possibly imagine what a purple people eater is? Does it even exist? The song with the silly name of “The Purple People Eater” actually rose to number one on the pop charts in 1958. It counted as a novelty song sung by Sheb Wooley. Now even though I love the color purple I don’t think it would ever inspire me to write something like this. Perhaps I could write something about purple skies, flowers or even hearts but no creatures and certainly no purple people. Anyway the song tells the story about this unusual creature with the description “one-eyed, one-horned, flying, purple people eater”. What this sounds like to me is that it would be the perfect song at a kindergarten to inspire the children to draw something like this and great fun would be had by all. Wooley got the idea for the song through a child’s joke and composed this marvel in an hour’s time. Do we even have purple people in this world? Anyway take a listen to this silly song and let me know what you think. There are images for this thing online as you can see by the picture. www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9H_cI_WCnE
