What makes one interesting, hot, or top rated? Does a discussion need to have a minimum number of responses to be consider any of the three? If so, what is the magic number for each? I'd like to see a definite answer.
Also, while we are in the topic of discussions, I always make sure to check the discussions done by new users and those that have no responses yet. Replying in a discussion done by a new user is my way of welcoming that new user and telling him/her how cool myLot is! Discussions that don't have responses, I try my best to post my thoughts since we are here to discuss things. Even if the topic is unfamiliar, I try to do some research so I'm sure that I'm writing something relevant. Not only am I earning... more importantly, I'm also learning!
Appreciate everyone's thoughts.

Rather than try to answer this myself, I strongly suggest that you read this recipe by @Rollo1:

Even if one follows that recipe there is no guarantee that such type of discussions will feature in those categories. Some I see have zero responses.

How nice of you to think of us Newbies 
. I do think that the time I come on MyLot plays a big part on how many replies and likes I get. I would imagine the biggest part of this site is from the US which means that when I am around in the morning you are all in the land of nod. It was very quiet when I came here this morning so I might have to leave it until later in the evening before I come out to play,

@sprite1950 that is one way to look at it. Although, come to think of it, myLot is a global community so for sure, there is someone on-line at any time of the day.
