do you think the way you dress is important?

I noticed that people treat you differently according to the way you dress. if I'm careless about the way I dress even the sales person where I use to buy bread acts different. if I go to the office and I dress accordingly it gives me a sensation that the people I meet treat me with more respect. do you think this is true? or am I just misunderstanding?

I think dressing neat is necessary. Because often our dressing sense decides if we are attracting people or warding them off. So that in turn makes you think about whether you should be taken seriously or not.

yes indeed dressing neat is important and people make a first impression good or bad according to the way we dress

It's true, because our appearance does constitute the first impression people get about us. It speaks about our personality, to a certain extent.

yes indeed. the way you dress expresses the way you are. but still I never understood this tendency I notice on people to wear all black or un-interesting colors: like brown, grey, green, dark blue. it's like they are afraid to stand out wearing pink, yellow, red

@cahaya1983 yes it takes a little bit of courage to wear such colors. and especially if you don't like attention to be drawn to you than you shouldn't be wearing yellow for example

@swissheart But then again, everyone has their own definition of "interesting". What's interesting to you might not be something that they find interesting, and vice versa. Some would think black is a dull color, others see them as elegant. Some people think yellow and red are vibrant, but other people might see them as too bold.

yes. indeed. especially if your job asks you to respect a certain dress code if you don't do that people are going to judge you and you might be even facing problems at work

I agree with that statement because with the kind of clothes you are wearing you can easily get the respect of people around you.

yes. people seem to treat you differently according to the way you dress. and in order to look good we must say that you don't need to spend a fortune on clothes

Dressing in a particular way does give a positive vibe in that environment. It simply means you are acknowledging the situation like the rest of the people present there. Looking presentable at workplace and following a dress code is necessary.....the mentality of the society is that if you are like that, you take your job seriously and will respect you more. You cannot change that mentality, can you?

yes indeed. being presentable shows that you respect your job, you respect yourself and the people around you. some might say that dressing isn't important but I don't believe that
