Memory Of Those Dark Days

Often I come across discussions about shortage of power in different countries of the world. And every time I respond,I remind the days when we had acute power shortage in our town also. Those were the days when we could not even think of uninterrupted power supply.Frequent power cuts was the norm of the day then.Any time both in day or night, the supply of electricity would be cut and everything around us would sink into pitch darkness suddenly.Watching tv,enjoying a sweet sleep under a moving fan and completing our homework in a well lit room was no less than a blessing.
I still remember summer nights I had spent changing sides on my bed due to hot weather.I remember how I had to complete my homework in the light of lanterns or clay lamps.
But now all that is history. We now have sufficient power supply in our town.
While responding to discussions about power shortage, those 'dark days' come alive in my memory.

Happy to read that you now have good power and not much shortage friend.
It is sad when that happens.

@OceanTiara,Yes,the concerned officials who worked days and nights to solve the problem deserve thanks.

my concern is always that we will get used to always having power, then what happens when it goes down and never comes back? I want to have things like seeds, gardening tools, barrels to collect water in, and a camping stove that runs on twigs saved back. I do not have all of these things, yet.

@Jessicalynnt,I hope, the day will come when we power shortage will become history. It may take time.If it can happen in this small town of ours,it can also happen in your place too.

I think the governments have to build more power plants, and ensure that the electricity is not wasted through leakage or theft.
It is a huge project for the governments to ensure that electricity is not disrupted.
They can do that, though it costs a lot of money but the return is great.
People prefer to keep paying for electricity than to suffer blackout.

Any time I lose my power I wonder why I haven't invested in a backup system. I also think about how isolated and lonely it is without power. This is an age that hinges on activities that are power related. Even a book is hard to read by candle light if you don't have many around!

@OneOfMany,of course, the trouble we face then can't be described. We have undergone it.Even now when we enjoy uninterruted power supply, the memory of those days makes us shiver.

@OneOfMany Of course, but nothing can be done about it.In storm they cut the power supply for our safety. As soon as the storm is over, power supply gets resumed.

@else34 And then one bad storm and it's back to the beginning! My power was flickering last night due to a storm all day. My computer has a back up battery that keeps it going so it works out.
